'Let's go up on the Hill.' For more than thirty years, those words meant the same thing to one Northam family. Put the day down, walk to the top of the block and enjoy the view. Out came the bonfire and damper and the yarns went around until some problem or other had been solved. The grandkids built cubby houses up there, each one more elaborate than the last. It all began in 1989, when Mr Dietrich bought this elevated 5,218m² block on the edge of Northam with a plan in mind. He wanted a home where his mother and his own family could live side by side and a place that could one day become everyone's forever home. It worked better than he could have hoped. Ten grandchildren spent their school holidays here with the run of the place. Christmas, Easter and most birthdays were celebrated here, year after year. The house was built to last by the people who knew how. Family tradesmen from Dietrich Bros, the Northam building company Mr Dietrich started in 1965, helped bring his vision to life
